Kerr Hearing Services
Comprehensive Hearing Evaluation
Kerr Hearing licensed specialist will perform many types of tests to determine the full extent of your hearing loss. In order to make sure the test are accurate, the specialist will first look inside of your ears to see if there has been any damage to the eardrum or if there is a significant buildup of wax in your ear canal. If they see no problems, they will be able to proceed with the test.
The next test is a Pure Tone Test. This is a series of tones through a headset or by inserting an earplug in your ears. This test tells the specialist the lowest point you can hear these tones.
The third step will be a Bone Conduction Test. This involves placing a headset on the mastoid bone behind the ear. You will hear much the same tones as the Pure Tone Test.
You will then have two different Word Tests. The first will be a series of two syllable words that will vary in loudness. This allows the specialist to determine the lowest point you are able to understand speech. The last word test will be a series of short words and will be presented at a comfortable listening level. This will tell how well you understand speech when the volume is at a normal conversational level.
These tests combined tell your specialist the type of hearing loss and the hearing loss. This will help in determining which type of hearing aids will work best for you and how well you will understand when all of the sounds are at a comfortable listening level.
